Tomorrow Is Not Ours
written by Jenor Aguilar
Look here, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.’ How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. – James 4:13-14

The article “Cities That Never Sleep” by Suemedha Sood highlights how the nighttime economy relies on a dedicated workforce. Yet, night-shift workers face significant health risks due to the disruption of natural bodily rhythms. These risks include sleep disorders, metabolic issues, and a higher likelihood of chronic illnesses. Our bodies are naturally programmed to be active during the day and rest at night. Disrupting these rhythms can impair memory, reaction time, and job performance, increasing the risk of workplace errors and accidents.

Work is a gift from God, enabling us to support our families and contribute to our city's growth. But if work becomes our main focus, we might lose sight of God’s perfect plan. We must remember we are not machines or immortal; we are human, with limits.
James reminds us that we don't control our future, but we are responsible for taking care of our bodies. Our lives are short and uncertain, like a mist that appears briefly and then disappears. This perspective encourages us to be thoughtful about our goals.
The Bible warns us against being obsessed with gathering wealth, as it can pull us away from God, strain our families, and damage our health. Our true mission is not to build earthly empires, but to work for God’s kingdom, which holds lasting value. Let's use this divine wisdom to guide our journey to success.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of work and the opportunities it provides. Help us to find balance in our lives, prioritizing Your eternal kingdom over earthly pursuits. May Your wisdom guide us in all we do, and may we honor You with our actions and decisions. Strengthen us to care for our bodies as Your Spirit's temple, and grant us the insight to focus on what truly matters. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
